Lufthansa Airlines trials lie-flat seating arrangement

Posted on 1 December 2020

Ever since the coronavirus was officially declared a worldwide pandemic, airlines around the world have constantly been updating and improving their social distancing measures. Now, it looks as though German airline, Lufthansa, has come up with its own innovative solution to ensuring passengers keep their distance.

Lufthansa testing a new lie-flat seating arrangement

Lufthansa is trialling a new seating arrangement upgrade that will give passengers flying in economy class the option to book an adjacent row of 3 to 4 seats, which they will then be allowed to lie down on have a good night of sleep while flying. To add an extra layer of comfort, passengers will be given a blanket and a pillow. Passengers who decide to take the airline up on this offer will also be entitled to priority boarding.

The trial will begin on the airline’s Frankfurt, Germany to São Paulo, Brazil flights from November 18 to mid-December.

While this option may sound like the ideal solution for travelling in a COVID-19 climate, it will cost you a pretty penny. According to reports from CCN Travel, anyone interested in this offer will be required to purchase the upgrade at the airport, either during check-in or at the gate. They will also need to pay an additional R4,000 [$260] on top of the original ticket price.
