Mount Agung erupts in Bali

A volcano in Bali, Mount Agung, erupted on Saturday 26 May, showering villages in the surrounding area with volcanic ash.

According to Science Alert, the eruption lasted for four minutes and 30 seconds.

Lava and rocks spread approximately 3.2km away from the site, Business Insider reported. Flights were cancelled after the eruption, but operations have since resumed.

Tourists and locals have been told to avoid immediate areas around Mount Agung, according to the BBC. The volcano has been closely monitored since 2017, when activity levels there began to increase.
