Murky waters prompts closure of beaches along Durban north coast

Posted on 6 January 2022 By Taylah Strauss

The eThekwini Municipality has closed off numerous beaches along the Durban north coast after the Umgeni River expelled abnormal, murky waters to the beach.

‘In the interest of public safety, the city has taken a decision to close temporarily North, Bay, Battery, Country Club 1 and 2,  eThekwini and Laguna beaches,’ said eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela, according to IOL.

This means that bathing and any other sporting activities such as surfing is strictly prohibited until further notice.

Tests on the water are being conducted which will determine what the next best course of action will be.
