The N2 highway near Queen Nandi Drive in KwaZulu-Natal is closed after a truck carrying a large volume of paraffin crashed into a motorbike, overturned and spilled the liquid early on Tuesday morning, 18 January.

The truck driver is unharmed, but the biker sustained critical injuries and was hospitalised, according to TimesLive. ‘The freeway is currently still closed in both directions for the recovery of the wreckage,’ said ALS paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

‘At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.’

Authorities arriving at the scene initially suspected the truck had spilled petrol, but it was later discovered that it was transporting about 40,000 litres of paraffin, reports The South African.

Delays can be expected and motorists should make use of alternative routes if possible.
