Roadworks between Ashton and Montagu have finally reached completion following years of roadworks and stop-and-go systems.
The road project began in July 2015 to replace the old arch bridge that was built in the 1930s, and reconstruct parts of the R60 and R62 roads.
The concrete tied arch bridge was South Africa’s first-ever bridge of this kind constructed using a transverse launching method.

The project was set to be completed late in 2021 but was delayed by multiple factors, including disruptions caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
The newly completed roadworks will improve the driving experience between Ashton and Montagu and serve as a gateway to the iconic R62 route through the Klein Karoo.
