A 29-year-old woman sustained multiple injuries in a rock climbing accident on 28 April and was rescued by the Mountain Club of SA – Search And Rescue (MCSA).
The climber accidentally pulled a loose block off, causing the fall at Cathedral Rock, a 60-metre-high sea stack on the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape.

‘She possibly sustained head, leg and back injuries. A rescue team from the KZN Section was flown from Maritzburg via Virginia Airport. The aircraft had been rigged with a long-range fuel tank for the flight,’ the Mountain Club said.
An MCSA doctor and other team members helped the climber off the rocks. She was stabilised on the scene, before all members were hoisted off the rock onto the mainland and she was taken to a hospital in Durban.
