The collaboration links major cities with regional and leisure destinations that have not previously formed part of SAA’s route network, making it easier for travellers to move around the country.

Unlike SAA’s existing codeshare agreements, which focus mainly on regional and international routes, this partnership is exclusively domestic. It is designed to increase accessibility and convenience for local travellers while strengthening connections between urban hubs and smaller destinations.

Under the agreement, both airlines will place their respective codes on selected flights. This allows passengers to book combined itineraries through official airline websites, mobile apps, and authorised travel agents. Travellers can expect single-ticket journeys, seamless connections, and baggage checked through to their final destination, supported by aligned service standards across both carriers.

CemAir has been operating in South Africa since 2005 and plays a key role in linking regional centres with major cities. The airline operates scheduled services to destinations including Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, George, East London, Gqeberha, Margate, Kimberley, Hoedspruit, and Mala Mala. Its fleet of regional jets and turboprops complements SAA’s operations and broadens access to some of the country’s most sought-after business and leisure locations.

SAA Group CEO Professor John Lamola described the partnership as a significant step forward for domestic aviation. He said the agreement focuses on connecting travellers to regional and leisure destinations that were previously beyond SAA’s reach, while offering greater flexibility and choice and supporting tourism and economic growth across South Africa.

CemAir CEO Miles van der Molen echoed this sentiment, noting that the collaboration reflects a shared vision to improve access, reliability, and network strength for both business and leisure travellers.

For passengers, the benefits include expanded access to unique destinations, smoother connections on a single ticket, and integrated booking across both airlines’ platforms.

Ticket sales for codeshare flights open on 26 January 2026. Bookings can be made through SAA and CemAir’s official channels, including their websites, mobile apps, and accredited travel agents.
