SANParks Honorary Rangers have beefed up the Kruger National Park K9 unit with three new members. The new hounds are ready to be deployed into the park within the upcoming weeks.

The dogs have been called ‘game changers’ in terms of anti-poaching efforts, according to SANParks Honorary Rangers.
A Doberman Bloodhound cross successfully aided in six arrests within the Crocodile Bridge area in the south of the park on the weekend of January 15-17. The pooch is 6 years old and will be able to help the unit’s efforts for the next few years.
‘He caught 3 suspected poachers on Friday after starting to follow the spoor at 07h00 that morning, and made contact at 17h00. After 10 hours of grueling work, the K9 team finally hit contact and arrested the 3 suspects,’ said the conservation organisation on Facebook.
That same Sunday, the K9 unit apprehended another 3 suspected poachers. Weapons and backpacks were swiftly confiscated as evidence.
