In an effort to strengthen tourism, South Africa and the Gambia are working towards a visa-free agreement.

The Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement was announced following the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD). High-level talks were Gambian Foreign Minister Hon. Sering Modou Njie and South Africa’s Hon. Ronald Lamola as reported by Voyages Afriq.
Visa-Free Travel in Africa: A Step Closer for South Africa and Gambia
Once the agreement is implemented, this would make travelling between the Gambia and South Africa easier and more affordable by cutting out visa-associated costs. This development is expected to bolster tourism and cultural exchange between the two nations. Furthermore, this opens an opportunity for increasing trade and investment, further strengthening diplomatic ties.
The ministers are committed to build on the foundation of the agreement by cooperating in diplomatic training and institutional development. This agreement is another sign of the shift of African nations increasingly look within the continent for partnerships related to transcontinental tourism, trade and diplomacy.
