A bale of rescued endangered sea turtles have been returned into the ocean by SAAMBR and their group of collaborators.

The project was done in collaboration with Ezemvelo Wildlife, The NSRI and Durban Undersea Club. Together they boarded the SAIAB Phakisa vessel to release the recovered loggerhead turtle post-hatchlings into the deep blue sea.
The loggerhead turtles were recovered all over the South African coast with some coming from the Western Cape through Two Oceans Aquarium.
The little turtles are generally only released once they reach a body weight of 150g and demonstrate a good diving ability so that they can hunt and chase food for themselves.

All sea turtles are listed as endangered and the rescue, rehabilitation and release efforts by all involved contribute to the ongoing conservation of these amazing oceanic creatures.
Loggerhead and leatherback turtles nest along the northern KZN coastline and the stranding of turtle hatchlings can be caused by cold temperatures, strong onshore winds and adverse currents or injuries.
