After a lengthy UK flight ban, Virgin Atlantic is set to recommence to South Africa flights between London-Heathrow and Johannesburg-OR Tambo
According to Tourism update, Virgin Atlantic will resume operating passenger flights three times a week between London Heathrow and Johannesburg OR Tambo. After more than five months of no passenger services, the first flight carrying passengers from Johannesburg will operate on June 26. The airline says the schedule will be published shortly.
Both Virgin Atlantic and British Airways had to halt their flights to South Africa. Virgin Atlantic however, has now confirmed that it will resume scheduled passenger flights between South Africa and the UK again. According to Liezl Gericke, Virgin’s head for the Middle East, Africa and India commented that the airline was delighted to fly passengers between London and Johannesburg again.
Even though no South African tourists can visit the UK under their current lockdown regulations, those in possession of a study, work or residence permit may enter the UK from South Africa. It is still however mandatory for passengers arriving from South Africa to undergo a 10 day, pre-booked hotel quarantine. Those travelling from South Africa to the UK are encouraged to book their quarantine facility as early as possible.
The South African government still allows travel to and from South Africa for tourism purposes, provided they present with a negative Covid test upon arrival. The airline further commented that it is committed to relaunching its Cape Town route later this year.
