Waveski Surfing Championship back on board in Port Alfred

Posted on 15 June 2022 By Ilhaam Hoosain

Port Alfred’s East Beach will be filled with happy surfers showing off their skills from 16 – 19 June 2022. After a two-year postponement due to Covid19, South Africa‘s best Waveski Surfers will be diving deep into the Kowie River.

Hosting the competition this year is the Eastern Province Waveski Association (EPWSA) Chairman Eugene O’Neil says, ‘This is an exceptionally beautiful town and venue and everyone has been so welcoming. This will be the first time for Port Alfred to host the National titles and a central location for everyone, so it will be great for everyone to be together again.’

Competitors will come from the West Coast, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban. Open and/or Closed titles are up for grabs.

Waveski Surfing Champion Mike Wessels will be there to defend his title. Johann Momberg is a strong opponent and has been a force to be reckoned with within the Regional Contests.
