The Plantsman Eatery and Bakery
Just outside White River, The Plantsman Eatery and Bakery has become a favourite among locals and visitors alike. Surrounded by beautifully kept gardens, the café combines relaxed country charm with freshly baked treats from its on site bakery. It’s also pet friendly, making it an easy stop for travellers exploring with their four legged companions.
Photography tip: Wander through the rose garden and orchard before settling in for breakfast. Early morning is the best time to shoot, when the soft Lowveld light filters through the gardens and creates an effortless backdrop for food and lifestyle photography.

White River Gallery
Located at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre on the R40, the White River Gallery showcases contemporary works by artists from Mpumalanga and across South Africa. The gallery itself is just as eye catching as the art inside.
Its rustic industrial architecture, complete with corrugated metal cladding, expansive glass frontage and mature trees, makes it one of White River’s most distinctive buildings.
Photography tip: Start outside, where the striking façade offers plenty of opportunities for architectural photography. If you’d like to photograph the interior, be sure to check the gallery’s photography policy before taking pictures.

Gin and Co
Whether you’re a gin lover or simply appreciate beautifully designed spaces, Gin and Co is worth adding to your itinerary. The boutique micro distillery blends old world character with contemporary design through copper lighting, velvet seating, patterned tiles and shelves lined with small batch spirits.
The result is a space that feels as stylish as the drinks it produces.
Photography tip: Use natural light from nearby windows or the warm glow of the bar to illuminate the bottles and tasting glasses. If you’re sampling the gin, photograph your drink before taking the first sip for the clearest, most vibrant shot.

ANEW Resort White River Mbombela
The restaurant at ANEW Resort White River Mbombela offers a contemporary setting filled with warm textures and natural light. Woven pendant lights, terracotta seating, indoor greenery and timber finishes create an inviting atmosphere that works equally well for breakfast, coffee or lunch.
It is also one of the area’s more photogenic indoor spaces.
