Winter weather ploughs through SA

Posted on 10 July 2020

Snow, high seas, heavy rains and gale force winds: These are a few of the weather conditions battering parts of South Africa this winter.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) announced that the country would be paid a visit by two cold fronts from Thursday [July 9]. In a statement, SAWS said: ‘Bitterly cold, wet and windy weather expected over parts of South Africa over the next few days. Gale force winds, heavy rain, snow, and very cold conditions will be imminent from Thursday (09 July 2020) as two cold fronts make landfall.’

Residents are urged to refrain from driving if possible, steer clear of coastal areas and make sure pets are warm and dry.

Take a look at some of the wild winter scenes from across the country as the two cold fronts set in.
