A routine game drive in Kenya’s Maasai Mara turned into an unforgettable wildlife encounter when four inquisitive cheetah cubs surrounded a safari vehicle, transforming it into their own playground.

The remarkable moment was captured by wildlife photographer Prajwal Shetty Kaup, whose vehicle was the only one observing Nashipai, a well-known female cheetah, and her four cubs that day.

As the vehicle remained stationary, the playful cubs wasted no time exploring. One appeared to pose confidently for the camera, another investigated a tyre with its paws, one stood directly in front of the vehicle, while another disappeared underneath it, leaving the passengers with little choice but to wait patiently.

Despite the close encounter, the cheetah family remained calm throughout, with the cubs simply indulging their natural curiosity in a relaxed setting.

The moment ended as quietly as it began. Nashipai strolled past the vehicle, and all four cubs immediately abandoned their game to sprint after their mother across the open plains, continuing their day as though nothing unusual had happened.

Reflecting on the experience, Prajwal said: “We were the only vehicle with Nashipai and her four cubs that day. Fifteen years in Africa, and moments like this never get old.”
