South African low-cost airline FlySafair has introduced Apple Pay and Google Pay as new payment options in its mobile app, allowing travellers to complete flight purchases with a single tap.

The update forms part of the airline’s broader push to simplify the digital booking experience and reduce checkout friction for customers.
The one-tap payment feature is powered by Stitch, a local fintech company specialising in secure online and in-person transactions. By enabling passengers to use payment details already stored on their smartphones, the system removes the need to manually enter card information during checkout, speeding up the booking process while maintaining security standards.
According to FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon, travellers increasingly expect convenience at every stage of their journey. The addition of Apple Pay and Google Pay allows customers to finalise bookings in seconds using familiar and trusted payment methods.
The new functionality is currently available through the airline’s mobile app, with a website rollout expected at a later stage.
Technology focused on smoother travel
The payment update joins a growing suite of digital tools designed to give passengers more control before arriving at the airport. These include WhatsApp Pay for baggage payments, the Track My Plane feature for near real-time aircraft tracking, and AI Lindi, the airline’s WhatsApp-based virtual assistant that helps with bookings, changes and travel queries.
Passengers can also check in online up to 24 hours before departure, manage bookings digitally, receive real-time flight notifications and add extras such as seats or additional luggage through self-service options.
As Gordon notes, the goal is simple: make travel feel straightforward from the moment a ticket is booked.
