For a perfect romantic outing nothing comes close to the classic (tried-and-tested, if you like) romantic dinner or lunch. Here are the best romantic spots offering specials for a Valentine’s Day dinner in the Western Cape.

 

Kurland Hotel

Kurland Hotel, in the Crags near Plettenberg Bay, will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a three-course signature menu created by Executive Chef Leon Coetzee. Roses, oysters and a glass of Champagne await guests on arrival. If weather permits tables are set up on the veranda overlooking the polo fields. Booking is essential. Expect dishes such as grilled tomato with miso-cured salmon, seared springbok loin with herb polenta, monkfish with coriander risotto and rich chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream.

La Mouette

La Mouette offers a set four-course menu for Valentine’s Day. The menu prepared by Executive Chef Henry Vigar includes several options ranging from West coast oysters, roasted angelfish and delicious puddings like dark chocolate macaroon and many other delectable choices. Dinner starts at 7pm, and booking is essential.

Waterkloof Estate

‘Valentine’s with a View’ at Waterkloof Estate offers an exclusive menu of six food and wine pairings prepared by chef Gregory Czarnecki. Each guest will be welcomed with a complimentary flute of Cap Classique on arrival, and ladies will receive a rose. Waterkloof Estate’s “glass box” restaurant is set against the backdrop of the estate’s amphitheatre of vineyards and the full expanse of False Bay in the distance. Feast on goat’s cheese mousse, trout gravlax with watercress mayonnaise, monkfish with crispy prawns, Karan beef served with a shallot tarte tatin, lamb loin and a decadent chocolate dessert with passion fruit bites. Booking is essential.

Two Oceans Restaurant

Two Oceans Restaurant takes a unique “Red or Blue” approach this Valentine’s day, where you choose “red hot love” or “are you feeling blue” for two different lunch menu options designed by Executive Chef Phil Alcock, which either way, promises to be delectable meal and good fun. There’s also a choice between having a two or three course meal, while Two Oceans staff will join in the fun with their red and blue themed outfits.Tuck into oysters, watermelon carpaccio, seared tuna marinated in harissa, chargrilled springbok loin with vanilla risotto, and white chocolate and raspberry soufflé on the Red Menu, or Thai-steamed mussels, braised stuffed oxtail with fondant potato, and baked blueberry tart with granadilla salad on the Blue Menu.

Azure Restaurant at The Twelve Apostles Hotel is serving a four-course set menu with a view over the Atlantic Ocean and live music. Guests receive a “Perfect Lady” cocktail on arrival, and a rose for their partner. Dinner starts at 7pm, and the dress code is semi formal. Feast on scallops with truffled cauliflower, quail galantine with white wine pears, Norwegian salmon, and a dark chocolate pudding with pistachio marzipan, followed by cheeses and preserves.

Pigalle in Greenpoint offers a dinner and dance experience, with a 4-course set menu and live music in the background from their resident band. The band will start with a soft background dinner style repertoire, building it up to a late night party frenzy enticing patrons to dance the night away. Guests receive a complimentary glass of Pongracz on arrival. The menu includes and amuse bouche of sweet corn and basil veloute with king crab, a tian of Salmon, herb-crusted kingklip filler served with crushed potatoes, and a Cape Velvet crème brulee with homemade biscotti.
