Legendary photographer Art Wolfe is renowned for his stunning images as well as his passion for his work, conservation and teaching. His photographs offer a unique and sensitive glimpse into the world’s fast depleting landscapes, wildlife and cultures.
His style is a mix of journalistic and artistic and his images tell a story, and aim to be educational as well as aesthetic. Their beauty captivates you, and then you look deeper and you realise the issues they are championing. Art’s love for nature is obvious in his work- he has taken approximately one million images in his time, and has published over 65 books.
His images are published all over the world in countless magazines, and his travelling exhibits are always much anticipated events. He has won multiple awards such as the Photographic Society of America’s Progress medal for his contribution to advancing photography from an art and scientific point of view, as well as the Alfred Eisenstaedt Magazine Photography Award, the Rachel Carson Award and the Outstanding Nature Photographer of the Year award from the North American Nature Photography Association.
His award winning titles include: The Living Wild, Vanishing Act, The High Himalaya, Water: Worlds between Heaven and Earth, Tribes, Light on the Land, Dog’s make us Human and Migrations.
On Location with Art Wolfe, Techniques of the Masters and American Photo’s Safari, are three of the television shows Art has embarked on, which have enjoyed great success, becoming immensely popular all over the world. Art Wolfe’s Travels to the Edge won American Public Television’s 2007 Programming Excellence Award, with the sequel series earning five Silver Telly Awards.
Art travels for nearly nine months every year. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, a Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and serves on the advisory boards for the Nature’s Best Foundation and Bridges to Understanding.
He is a natural teacher, who firmly believes in passing on the knowledge and experience he has acquired, and he does a great deal of pro- bono work, including donating performances and work to educational and environmental groups every year.
