Clanwilliam Wildflower Show cancelled

Posted on 3 August 2020

The Clanwilliam Wildflower Show has been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers said in a statement.

‘We often enjoy Clanwilliam and its surrounding area’s rock formations, open spaces, fynbos, mountains and the pink tinged glow of sunsets, but even here the future is not always rosy. COVID-19 and the consequent uncertain times took its toll and the organizers of the show were forced to cancel this year’s show,’ read the statement.

Ilse Saaiman, Chairperson of the Clanwilliam Wild Flower Society said that the show takes months to plan and that it is just not feasible given the circumstances. It is also a costly event.

‘The flower people of Clanwilliam will definitely miss the excitement, togetherness and being creative. The cancellation of the show inevitably also leads to a loss of income for many members of the Clanwilliam Tourism Association.

‘Hopefully by August or September we can host guests again,’ continued the statement.
