Durban hotels light up to spark hope

In a time when we need hope in abundance, the Southern Sun’s Elangeni and Maharani hotels are trying to give us just that. The Durban hotels lit up with a message of solidarity and hope to encourage South Africans during the national lockdown.

The hotels lit up, creating a stunning image of a heart with the words ‘love’ and ‘hope’. Using room lights, they arranged that some remained off and others were turned on to create the rousing images.

They captioned the image posted to their Facebook page, ‘A heartfelt message from us to you during the lockdown’, adding the hashtag #StrongerTogether.

With the tourism industry being one of the hardest hit during the coronavirus pandemic, a show of solidarity from the hotel is extra special in its meaning.

The comment section lit up just as brightly, with fans of the hotels commending them on their hopeful messages. ‘A ray of hope during these difficult times,’ said one Facebook user. ‘This is fantastic! Thanks for spreading love and hope!’ another added.

Tsogo Sun deactivated all hotels on 26 March, with the exception of those operating under exemption requirements and essential services as directed by the government.
