Emirates announced the extension of their ban against South African passengers travelling to Dubai. The discovery of the Omicron variant by South African scientists led to mass travel bans against South African travellers globally, in which Emirates followed suit on November 28.

Emirates continued outbound flights from Dubai to Johannesburg but imposed a month-long travel ban on inbound passengers from Johannesburg to Dubai.

The suspension was planned to be lifted on January 1. However, the airline followed Qatar Airways‘ suit and has since announced that the suspension would carry on until January 10, or until a new commencement date has been approved, according to Travel News. The airline will continue carrying passengers from Dubai to Johannesburg.

In addition, Emirates added numerous African countries to this suspension, such as Angola, Kenya, Zimbabwe and many more.
