The Galileo Open Air Cinema returns with more venues

Posted on 25 September 2018

What better way to welcome the change of season in Cape Town than movies under the stars? The Galileo Open Air Cinema returns in its 7th season and will run from 17 October 2018 to 21 April 2019.

Spend time in the great outdoors, under a ceiling of stars, falling in love all over again with your favourite flicks and the sheer beauty of the Mother City. In addition to the movies, there will be a festive food market selling snacks and food and if you’re not up for that, you are more than welcome to pack your own picnic basket for nibbles and snacks.

The Galileo Open Air Cinema will be screening its films at a wide variety of venues, from Kirstenbosch Gardens to Central Park in Century City. This year, they’ve added new options such as the Glenellen Farm, Kenilworth Racecourse, Rustenburg Girls’ High School, Willowbridge Mall and the V&A Waterfront’s Battery Park.

Kick-starting on October 17th, The Galileo’s seventh season will also now be taking place every Saturday at a different wine estate across the Cape Winelands. It’s advised to buy your tickets online to avoid disappointment. You can buy your tickets online or at the gate, although the gate could be risky as tickets may be sold out.

When buying your ticket, you have the option to book a backrest or a blanket for a more comfortable experience. You can also just buy a movie ticket and bring your own blankets – no private backrests or chairs. Gates open at 6 pm on weekdays, 5 pm on Saturdays and 4 pm on Sundays. Movies start just after sunset when the light fades, which should offer you enough time to get some food and settle in and get cosy.

Movie schedule will be announced on 1 October 2018. To view the schedule when it comes out and to book your tickets, visit thegalileo.co.za.

Cost: From R89- R175 per person.
