Mteto’s Child Villa, developed by local entrepreneur Luzuko Mteto, will officially open its doors on Friday, 3 April 2026. The launch comes at a time of sustained growth in South Africa’s tourism sector, with over 10 million international arrivals recorded between January and December 2025. This reflects a 17.6% increase year on year and the highest figure on record. Domestic travel is also rising, with two-way passenger numbers increasing by 7% to 7.8 million.
Set in the heart of Khayelitsha, the villa reflects a growing demand for more immersive, locally rooted travel experiences. The area has long been recognised for its entrepreneurial energy and cultural depth, positioning it as a key hub for authentic township tourism.
Mteto, who also owns Spine Road Lifestyle, a popular local events and entertainment venue, says the new venture aims to redefine expectations of township accommodation.
“We want to focus on providing an exceptional, luxurious and memorable township escape,” he explains. “The goal is to create a home away from home experience for both domestic and international travellers.”
The property features five suites in total, including two presidential suites and three luxury standard rooms. The design leans into an industrial chic aesthetic, combining raw concrete finishes with modern wood, acrylic elements and curated abstract art. The result is a space that balances minimalism with warmth and texture.

Attention to detail is central to the experience. Interiors include custom designed furniture, handmade crockery and carefully selected art pieces, all intended to elevate the sense of comfort and individuality.
“We do not use the word ‘luxury’ loosely,” Mteto adds. “Our guests are discerning, and we have designed every aspect of the villa to reflect that, while still offering a meaningful cultural connection to Khayelitsha.”
Beyond the guest experience, the development also contributes to the local economy. Mteto’s Child Villa is expected to create five permanent jobs, while Spine Road Lifestyle currently employs around 40 staff members, most of whom are youth from the surrounding community.
The villa is conveniently located 24 km from Cape Town International Airport and within easy reach of key attractions. These include the Cape Town City Bowl (35 km), Cape Winelands (25 km), Muizenberg Beach (25 km), Table Mountain (34 km) and the V&A Waterfront (36 km). Nearby experiences include Spine Road Lifestyle, Rands Cape Town, Kwa-Ace and ABCD Concept tour operators.
Tourism continues to play a significant role in the national economy. It contributes nearly 9% to South Africa’s GDP and supports approximately 1.8 million jobs. In Cape Town alone, the sector added R27.5 billion to the local economy in 2024 and sustained over 106,000 jobs.
Bookings for Mteto’s Child Villa will be available via major platforms and directly through its website.
