Live and work in Aruba for three months with new programme

Posted on 21 September 2020

The island of Aruba is trying to entice remote workers to its beautiful shores with a new programme, which allows visitors to remain in the country for 90 days and access great deals.

The One Happy Workation programme encourages remote workers with special rates, complimentary WiFi, breakfast, all-inclusive food & beverage options and more at top hotels, villas and condos.

The increase in smaller island countries offering deals for remote workers has increased as travel opens up after heavy COVID-19 lockdowns. This is because these governments hopes that inviting those who have employment overseas can help boost the economy without taking away work opportunities for locals.

Longer travel stays are also key as they will help bolster the tourism industry and work around issues like possible quarantines and restrictions.

However, unlike other countries which have created specific kinds of visas for remote workers, Aruba has focused more on creating a programme which focuses on the holiday with work on the side, rather than a temporary residence with a bit of exploring added in.

Much like other countries, those entering do need to undertake a health screening for COVID-19. This includes a self-assessment, insurance coverage and a negative COVID-19 test.
