Travellers flying between Southern Africa and international destinations now have more options following the launch of a new codeshare agreement between CemAir and Air Europa.

According to travelnews.africa, the partnership is designed to improve connectivity between Southern Africa, Europe and the Americas. It allows passengers to book more seamless journeys through a single itinerary while benefiting from streamlined baggage handling and easier onward connections.
Under the agreement, passengers arriving in South Africa on Air Europa flights can connect directly onto CemAir’s domestic and regional network. This opens access to a range of destinations across Southern Africa that may previously have required separate bookings and more complicated travel arrangements.
For Southern African travellers, the partnership provides improved access to Air Europa’s extensive route network through its hub in Madrid. From there, passengers can connect to destinations across Europe, North America, South America and the Caribbean.
The agreement comes as Air Europa prepares to strengthen its presence in South Africa with the launch of its Johannesburg–Madrid service. The route is scheduled to begin on 24 June 2026 and will operate three times a week using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
According to CemAir, the partnership forms part of its broader strategy to expand international connectivity and create more travel opportunities for both leisure and business travellers. The airline believes the collaboration will help bridge regional destinations in Southern Africa with key global markets while supporting tourism growth across the region.
Air Europa, meanwhile, views the partnership as an important step in extending its reach beyond Johannesburg. By linking with CemAir’s network, international visitors will have easier access to a wider range of destinations throughout Southern Africa without the need for multiple separate bookings.
The move reflects a growing trend among airlines to use codeshare and interline partnerships to improve connectivity, simplify travel and provide passengers with access to broader route networks. For travellers, the result is often a smoother journey from departure to final destination.
Bookings under the new partnership are already available, offering travellers more convenient travel options between Southern Africa, Europe and the Americas.
