The revamped platform forms part of the department’s wider digital transformation programme and is designed to address long-standing problems that have frustrated citizens for years. Among the biggest concerns was the abuse of appointment slots by syndicates and opportunistic individuals who allegedly blocked bookings and resold them for profit.
According to Home Affairs, the upgraded system introduces enhanced security measures that link user profiles to both an ID number and email address. The changes are intended to prevent fraudulent activity while ensuring that appointment slots remain available to the public rather than being monopolised by third parties.
The department says the improvements represent an important step in modernising public services and restoring fair access to essential documentation. Citizens seeking smart IDs, passport services and other Home Affairs functions can now create a secure profile before booking appointments online.
Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber has described the upgrade as part of a broader effort to improve service delivery while strengthening safeguards against fraud and corruption. The new platform is one of several digital initiatives currently being implemented as Home Affairs moves away from paper-based processes and towards a more streamlined, technology-driven service model.
The launch follows a series of digital reforms introduced by the department in recent months, including the rapid expansion of Smart ID services through participating bank branches and plans to increase digital access to government services nationwide.
