The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, has unveiled a plan to establish public viewing sites throughout the province, allowing residents to unite and cheer on Bafana Bafana during the World Cup, Cape {town} Etc reports.

This initiative aims to foster community spirit while offering a safe, family-friendly environment for all to enjoy the exhilarating display of national pride that football brings.
In a collaborative effort, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has joined forces with municipal structures and private stakeholders to facilitate accessible venues for viewing matches.
Mackenzie underscored the importance of sport in promoting unity, stating: ‘Sport has a unique ability to unite people across communities, cultures, and generations. Through these viewing sites, the Department aims to strengthen social cohesion, create opportunities for community engagement, and ensure that all residents can share in the excitement of this important sporting occasion.’
Given the province’s rich sporting culture, these viewing sites are expected to draw large crowds eager to celebrate.
‘Sport remains one of the most powerful tools for bringing people together. By creating viewing opportunities in every district, we are ensuring that communities across the Western Cape can experience the excitement collectively while fostering a sense of belonging and provincial pride,’ Mackenzie added.
The established public viewing sites span across several districts, including:
- Garden Route District: Thembalethu Sports Grounds, Qhawa Street, Thembalethu, George
- Central Karoo District: Beaufort West Thusong Centre, Corner of Bantom and De Vries Streets, Beaufort West
- Cape Winelands District: Paarl East Thusong Centre, Van der Stel Street, Chicago, Paarl East, Paarl
- Overberg District: Grabouw Thusong Centre, 290 Ou Kaapse Way, Pineview, Grabouw
- West Coast District: White City Multipurpose Centre, 41 Trichardt Street, Saldanha
- City of Cape Town: NY110 Sports Park, Gugulethu
Residents are encouraged to arrive early and participate in the collective celebration of the spirit of sport and community.
The DCAS extends its heartfelt gratitude to all partners instrumental in making these viewing sites a reality, whilst wishing Bafana Bafana success as they take on the world stage.
