SANParks helicopter pilot loses control during take-off

A SANParks Airbus AS350B-3+ (Squirrel) helicopter was damaged after the pilot lost control during take off at Cape Town International Airport.

The incident happened on the morning of January 2. The pilot flying the chopper only suffered minor injuries and was treated immediately.

This aircraft served as part of the SANParks aerial law enforcement and conservation management operations in Table Mountain National Park and surrounding areas.

It’s launch was considered a great success by SANParks in making the area safer and better patrolled.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the relevant law enforcement authorities have been notified of the accident and a full investigation into the cause of the accident will soon be underway.
