South Africa ranks 6th on ‘Best Honeymoon Destinations’ in 2022

South Africa bagged sixth spot on a list of the world’s best 15 honeymoon destinations. It is joined by Zanzibar, at number three, as the only two African countries on the list. It was compiled by travel company Big 7.

It’s no surprise that South Africa made it to this list; each province is packed with romantic getaways and tourist attractions, guaranteed to make your honeymoon unforgettable. Here’s a taster:

In the Western Cape, we have Cape Town. The Mother City is known for its iconic V&A Waterfront, scenic drives along the coast, and the impressive Table Mountain range.

Also in the Western Cape, the Cape Winelands boast myriad wine farms. It is also home to two globally recognised biodiversity hotspots: The Cape Floral Kingdom and the Succulent Karoo.

KwaZulu-Natal is blessed with a picturesque stretch of beaches known as the Golden Mile, lined with restaurants, cafes and craft stalls. KZN is also home to every hiker’s dream, the Drakensberg Mountain range, as well as the magical Midlands and adventure, romance and wildlife up and down the coast.

Not far behind is the North West province, home to South Africa’s internationally recognised premier vacation destination, Sun City. This is the perfect spot to get lost in the city, after all; what happens in Sun City, stays in Sun City.

It’s double or nothing…In Gauteng, Jozi is vibrant, trendy and exciting. Be amazed by its world-class street art, and find a happening watering hole to people watch. If you’re not looking to be smack in the middle of everything, Gauteng also sports a mountain range. The Magaliesberg is known for its hot air balloon operators.

In the eastern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo is Kruger National Park, the largest national park in South Africa and a national treasure. It placed ninth on most viewed national parks worldwide on social media platform TikTok.

The remote big sky Northern Cape is known for its endless gravel roads, its outstanding scenery and natural semi-arid desert. It also has a national park: The Tankwa National Park.

If you’re looking for adventure, you can find it in Parys, the Free State’s adventure capital.

Last but not least is the magical Eastern Cape, with its Wild Coast, the last place in South Africa where marine life has been largely untouched.
