Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls International Airport, Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport have set up COVID-19 testing facilities.
These are the country’s three major airports, situated in Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls respectively.
Zimbabwe’s airports will be equipped with COVID-19 testing stations.
‘Following the resumption of domestic and international flights, Lancet, Genau and Ampath laboratories have commissioned testing facilities at Robert Gabriel Mugabe (Harare), Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo (Bulawayo) and Victoria Falls International Airports,’ said Monica Mutsvangwa, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, according to Tourism Update.
‘Regarding the supply of testing consumables, it worth noting that the 21 080 Gene Xpert cartridges in stock are sufficient for over six months, enabling the country to stock up on other consumables required,’ she continued.
Despite having a negative COVID-19 certificate, if travellers appear to be symptomatic on arrival, a test will be conducted at a cost of US$60 (R978,13). This is to ensure the safety of all those entering and exiting the country.
Minister Mutsvangwa also said that land borders may also open soon. These posts include Beitbridge, Plumtree, Kazungula, Victoria Falls, Kariba, Chirundu, Nyamapanda and Forbes.
She explained that the border posts are being assessed to determine their preparedness for an increase in both human and vehicular traffic.
