Girls’ night done right: tequila and Taco Tuesdays at Flirt

Some nights don’t need a big plan — just the right people and a place that knows how to keep the mood going.

Flirt, a Mexican cocktail bar in Cape Town CBD, is exactly that kind of spot, especially on Taco Tuesday. When a group of friends and I stopped by during the festive season, just a day before New Year’s Eve, the atmosphere felt perfectly in sync with that end-of-year buzz.

From the moment you walk in, Flirt feels social. The lighting is dark and intimate with playful pops of colour, the music sets an upbeat tone, and the space encourages you to settle in rather than rush off. There’s an ease to it that works particularly well for a girls’ night — relaxed enough for long catch-ups, lively enough to feel like a night out.

We went on a classic Taco Tuesday, giving the table a natural focal point. The tacos are generous and packed with flavour, making them ideal for sharing and sampling across the menu. Soft tortillas, well-seasoned fillings and just enough spice make it easy to keep ordering another round, especially when everyone has a different favourite. It’s the kind of food that invites conversation, swapping plates and laughing over half-finished sentences.

We arrived during happy hour, which added an extra layer of fun to the night. Flirt’s happy hour cocktail list contains an array of bright, unapologetically playful margaritas, daiquiris and mojitos in a bunch of sweet and spicy flavours. It’s easy to see why this is the sort of place where one drink quickly turns into two.

What makes Flirt particularly well suited to a girls’ night is the balance it strikes. The music creates energy without overpowering conversation, the service is attentive without feeling rushed, the food is delicious, filling and afforable, and the crowd adds to the vibe without feeling chaotic. As the evening unfolds, the space fills out, the volume lifts slightly, and the festive energy carries through the room.

Flirt works because it understands what people are really looking for in a night out: good food that’s easy to share, cocktails that feel like part of the experience, and an atmosphere that encourages you to stay a little longer. Whether you’re planning a girls’ night, meeting friends during the festive season, or simply looking for a lively spot in Cape Town CBD, it’s the kind of place that adapts to the occasion. With its bold flavours, social energy and lineup of weekly specials, Flirt makes it easy to turn any visit into a reason to come back.
