Project Getaway, the travel film competition that’s rewarding this year’s top travel video with R20 000 towards a choice holiday from Getaway Travel, is now in its third month. More than 60 videos, shot and edited by readers from across the globe, have been entered since the competition began, however only a select few have made it through to our monthly selection. Top entries – September 2013

 Ethiopia in 5 Minutes

Gillian de Bruin, a mom of three busy little boys decided to take some time out and join her brother and sister and explore the fascinating country of Ethiopia. It was a whirlwind tour of eight days, which they absolutely loved!

Elephant Calf Rescue at Madikwe Game Reserve

Tristan Masterton and his wife filmed this incredible elephant calf rescue outside their room at Tau Lodge, Madikwe. Everyone else was on a drive while they stayed to care for their three-month-old baby boy (heard crying in the background). ‘It was the most incredible wildlife experience of my life,’ says Tristan.

Iceland – Water

Henning Gawrsich uses water, the source of all life to show that if you ever want to know how our earth was created, Iceland is the perfect place to go.

Iceland – Steam

Standing on an “extinct” volcano in Iceland, Henning Gawrsich captures the roaring steam bursting out of the ground, the rotten smell of sulphur in the air and the melting shoes on the hot ground.

The Good Life – Thailand

Jeff Clements and his wife quit their corporate jobs and spent six months travelling (she is a lawyer and I am in marketing). They started off in Thailand with a month of scuba diving, white water rafting, elephant rides, rock climbing, ping pong, a full moon party, snorkelling, bamboo rafting, tropical infections, cyclones, yoga, tanning, thai cooking classes, waterfall slides, temples, tuk tuks, go-go dancers, lady boys, poi, swimming, cocktails, underwater caves, overnight trains, magical lanterns … and a bunch of different islands to hop.
