Virgin Atlantic has announced changes to its Johannesburg–London Heathrow route, with new flight times set to take effect from 26 October 2025. The airline says the revised schedule will give passengers greater flexibility, better connections, and more convenient arrival times.

Under the updated timetable, flights from London Heathrow to Johannesburg will now leave earlier at 18:50 p.m., arriving in Johannesburg at 07:50 the following morning. Previously, the flight departed at 22:30 and landed mid-morning.
The return leg from Johannesburg to London will shift to a later departure at 21:45, touching down at Heathrow at 06:50, two hours later than before. Virgin Atlantic says this will create a smoother overnight journey and easier onward connections across its network.
Marc Harding, Virgin Atlantic’s South Africa country manager, said Johannesburg remains a central part of the airline’s global operations.
“These latest changes are about making the journey even better for our customers – whether that’s maximising their time on the ground, seamless onward connections, or simply experiencing the unique service we’re known for,” Harding said.
Virgin Atlantic has served South Africa for nearly 30 years and continues to operate daily flights between Johannesburg and London. From Heathrow, passengers can connect to destinations across North America, the Caribbean, and Europe. As part of the SkyTeam alliance, travellers also have access to reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and codeshare links with local carriers in South Africa.
Passengers departing Johannesburg can also access Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse lounge at OR Tambo International Airport, which features South African-inspired dining, regional wines and spirits, and facilities such as showers and luggage storage. Access is reserved for Upper Class passengers and eligible loyalty programme members.
