Situated in the heart of the Central Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal’s picturesque Champagne Valley, within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Drakensberg Sun Resort lies about 30km from Winterton, 400km from Johannesburg and 220km from Durban. The resort has an established reputation as a haven for the young and old, be they adventure-seekers or more sedentary outdoor nature lovers and ‘sit-by-the-fire-with-tea-and-a-good-book’ types. It is also the ideal location from which to explore the mountains.
Several Green Flag trails have been established on the property for walkers, from gentle strolls around the resort dam to longer, more strenuous hikes, as well as many excellent trails in the hills and mountains nearby. Canopy Tours has built a zipline through the beautiful Blue Grotto Forest, which is popular with the young and young at heart. You can fish for trout and bass from a boat or the shore of the dam and other facilities and activities include an on-site spa, playground for family games, bowling greens, horse-riding, mountain bike rental, paintball, pitch and putt, rowing boats, and canoeing.
