If you’re planning a trip to the paradise island of Mauritius then you might be surprised to learn that the island is much more than a pretty spot in which to stretch out your beach towel. There are loads of remarkable places on the island, where you can find adventure.

1. Picnic in the Black River Gorges National Park

There’s no setting more perfect for a picnic than this National Park, which features waterfalls, forests and gorgeous trails.

2. Scuba, snorkel or enjoy a glass-bottom boat ride at the Blue Bay Marine Park

The Blue Bay Marine Park is home to more than 50 different species of coral, and a host of other incredible sea creatures, making it the perfect place to explore the amazing reefs of Mauritius.

4. Take a hike up Le Pouce

Le Pouce (or The Thumb) is the third-highest peak in Mauritius, but the hike is manageable even for novice hikers. The view from the top is breath-taking and offers you unrivalled views of the nearby Moka range of mountains.

5. Visit the Chateau Labourdonnais for an extraordinary rum-making experience

The Chateau Labourdonnais has been in the Wiehe family for almost two centuries.
