Two new routes will be opening, linking Lanseria International Airport with the Eastern Cape’s King Phalo and Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airports.

From 1 November 2025, FlySafair will operate daily flights between Lanseria and Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha. A day later, on 2 November, the airline will launch six weekly flights between Lanseria and King Phalo Airport in East London.

Boost for domestic travel and tourism

These new connections are a welcome development for travellers and tourism alike. Non-stop flights save time and make travel easier which is something that continues to drive the popularity of domestic routes across South Africa.

According to ACSA, domestic travel now accounts for more than 69% of all traffic across its airport network. The addition of these routes strengthens the sector’s post-pandemic recovery and brings new energy to the Eastern Cape’s regional economy.

Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport Manager, Claudia Daniels, said the extra flights will deepen business and leisure ties between Gauteng and the Eastern Cape. At King Phalo Airport, Manager Nicola Smith added that the new service will help sustain growth and support a stable, accessible travel market for all.

A major boost for the Eastern Cape

For the Eastern Cape’s tourism industry, this is welcome news. Vuyani Dayimani, CEO of the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, said that improved air connectivity would make a significant impact on the region’s visibility and accessibility.

“These new routes make it easier for visitors to experience our diverse landscapes — from beaches and reserves to cultural landmarks and events,” Dayimani said. “They also open doors for small businesses and local communities to benefit from increased travel.”

ACSA reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable aviation and its goal of creating seamless travel experiences for passengers across the country.
