According to the Economic Times, Skywatchers around the world can enjoy a spectacular view as the full moon reaches its nearest point to Earth, appearing larger and more luminous than any other moon this year. No special equipment is needed. Clear skies alone will make this celestial show unforgettable.
The moon’s orbit around Earth is slightly elliptical, causing its distance to vary as it travels through space. A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with its perigee, the closest point in this orbit. According to NASA, this makes the moon appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than the faintest full moon of the year.
November’s supermoon is the second of three supermoons in 2025. It will pass within 222,000 miles (357,000 kilometers) of Earth, making it the nearest and brightest full moon of the year. The first appeared in October, while December will feature the final supermoon for 2025.
For the best view, find a dark spot away from city lights. Even though the size difference is subtle to the naked eye, the brightness and clarity are striking under clear skies. Astronomers note that supermoons also slightly influence tides, though the difference is usually minimal and barely noticeable.
This November’s celestial event offers a rare chance for both casual viewers and dedicated stargazers to witness a striking natural phenomenon. From coastal walks to countryside retreats, the supermoon promises a memorable night for those willing to step outside and look up.
