Reforest Fest’26: Travellers will restore the land they love

Posted on 23 February 2026 By Lee-Ann Steyn

With over 11 million visitors travelling to the Western Cape last year, contributing to habitat loss reaching nearly 60% in some areas, the Western Cape’s tourism boom has evoked urgent calls for the industry to shift from extraction to restoration. This Easter weekend, Greenpop is answering that call.

Reforest Fest, returning April 3 to 6 at Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat in the Overberg, offers travellers and families a different kind of getaway: an eco-festival where attendees don’t just enjoy the region’s landscapes; they actively restore them.

‘The Western Cape attracts millions of tourists annually who come to experience our natural beauty,’ says Misha Teasdale, Greenpop Co-founder and CEO.

‘Reforest Fest lets visitors give back to the landscapes that draw them here, and they can do it while enjoying family-friendly activities over along weekend.’

The festival blends music, restoration action and family-friendly programming: live performances from acts like Crimson House Duo, DJ Okapi and Japan’s FUNKIST, coupled with Easter activities
including a Sunday service and a child (and adult) Easter egg hunt.

The Reforest Fest family weekend is rounded off by:

  • poetry sessions
  • art workshops
  • yoga
  • guided forest walks with expert ecologists

The centrepiece of the festival comes on Saturday morning, when families help to plant 5 000 indigenous trees together.

‘The family model isn’t performative. It’s intentional,’ says Claudia Waller, Greenpop’s events lead.

Families physically plant trees together. Kids learn from inspiring ecologists. And everyone leaves knowing they contributed something lasting to one of South Africa’s most beautiful, yet  threatened, landscapes.”

For families and tourists seeking Easter weekend experiences beyond conventional getaways, Reforest Fest offers music, nature immersion, hands-on learning, and the rare opportunity to make a tangible difference side-by-side with loved ones.
