Ghost Elephants, a new feature-length documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog that follows South African conservationist and National Geographic Explorer Dr Steve Boyes on a remarkable expedition into one of Africa’s most remote landscapes.
Sitting down to speak with Dr Steve Boyes, the sense is that the story of Ghost Elephants extends far beyond what viewers will see on screen. Boyes spent years chasing the possibility of a mysterious elephant population in Angola’s remote highlands. For him, the expedition went beyond just about confirming a scientific theory.
