Kruger National Park receives much-needed rain

Phalaborwa received an abundant 100mm of rain on Wednesday [December 16] evening. Resident Ronel Thom shared her pictures taken at the Phalaborwa Gate of Kruger National Park of a beautifully full, flowing river.

Summertime is a particularly hot season in the Kruger National Park, with temperatures climbing near to the 40°C mark. There is also, usually, plenty rainfall which is needed to dissipate the heat and provide much-needed reprieve. Thunderstorms, which usually occur in the early mornings or late afternoons, are legendary this time of year.

In November, the area only received some 20mm of rain for the month, so this rainfall is very welcome, Thom said, ‘The trees were green but grass suffered,’ she added.

Social media users expressed their excitement in the comment section. ‘Good to know.. found things v dry in the south last week!’ one user said. ‘Lotsa very happy animals and dams and trees.,’ another added.
