A family winter favourite, when it’s just too cold to go outside and braai. This mouthwatering dish is sure to fill any tummy, big or small.

You’ll need: (serves 4)

4-8 large pork chops
6 potatoes
1 cabbage half
1 butternut
1 onion
6 Granny Smith cooking apples
1 cup milk
tablespoon butter
tablespoon honey
tablespoon vinegar
tbls olive oil
Salt and pepper

Here’s how:

Mash potatoes: Peel and quarter the potatoes. Boil with salt until soft and then drain. Mash with one cup of milk and one tablespoon of butter.

Sweet onion and cabbage: Finely slice cabbage and soak in cold water. Chop the onion and fry with one teaspoon of oil in a wok. Lift soaked cabbage and add to browned onion. Add a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of vinegar. Ground in a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook till liquid has evaporated.

Grilled butternut: Slice butternut into small thin pieces and place in baking tray with a tablespoon of olive oil. Grill till brown.

Pork chops: As well as cooking the butternut, place your chops in a separate baking tray and grill on 180 degrees Celsius until light brown.

Apple sauce: Slice apples and place in pot with 50ml water. Bring to boil and then simmer for 20 minutes. Drain and serve
