As the summer season approaches, Cape Town’s coastline enjoys a fresh boost of prestige: eight of its beaches have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status for 2025/26.

According to reports by EWN, the award – overseen by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) – comes after a rigorous international adjudication process. Beaches must meet strict standards around water quality, environmental education, safety and accessibility.

For travellers planning seaside escapes, this is good news. Here are the beaches flying the Blue Flag this season:

  • Bikini Beach
  • Camps Bay
  • Clifton 4th Beach
  • Fish Hoek
  • Llandudno Beach
  • Melkbosstrand
  • Muizenberg Beach
  • Silwerstroomstrand

Local authorities say the award underscores their “flag of excellence” commitment. “Our lifeguards will be on duty and we ask beachgoers to please adhere to the safety rules,” said Francine Higham, Mayco Member for Community Services and Health.

The official Blue Flag season begins on 1 December 2025 and runs through to 28 February 2026 at these accredited beaches.

For visitors and locals alike, this accreditation signals a higher standard: clean water, reliable safety services, accessible facilities and environmentally aware management. If you’re building a coastal itinerary in Cape Town, these beaches are strong picks for a summer day by the sea.
