The long-awaited 3638 Restaurant at the Kruger Station is open. Headed by former MasterChef SA judge Andrew Atkinson, this new restaurant situated in the Kruger National Park is part of the revival of the old Selati Station, linked to the route on which the Selati Railway once ran.

Part of of the precinct is also the Kruger Shalati: The Train on the Bridge lodge, offering 31 rooms, consisting of 24 carriage rooms and seven Bridge House rooms.

The restaurant offers world-class food and views.

‘The station will now form part of a new lifestyle precinct offering exceptional, value-for-money experiences,’ the Facebook page reads.

‘With Chef Atkinson on board, we know we’re going to be able to offer unique and fantastic food options for all our visitors – something which has been extremely important to us right from the start when we started dreaming about what these products will look and operate like’, Judiet Barnes, Kruger Shalati Concession General Manager told SA Chef Media.

The restaurant owes its name to the iconic locomotive, numbered 3638, which is permanently located at the station.

‘When you get the opportunity to dine at 3638, you enjoy the tastes of true Southern African cuisine with its vast array of flavours. This is all experienced in an unpretentious setting, made for you to enjoy with your family or friends,’ Atkinson said according to IOL.

‘The essence of the restaurant is that it’s a celebration of the historic Kruger Park while we pay homage to the modern-day visitor, by showcasing what is the world-wide trend in dining today – easy, boutique-lifestyle dining, but in a South African way.’
