Funny signs of the week

Posted on 1 June 2012

We all happen across them from time to time. Little pockets of humour spread all over the countryside. It doesn’t matter whether it is in a remote little village or on your everyday travels; a funny sign, whether intentional or not, can often make your journey memorable – or at the very least, liven up your day. This week’s funny signs were compiled by Devlin Nightingale.

The following funny signs were sent in over the past week by our readers:
Toe away zone - Nisha Jha
Nisha Jha sent in this funny sign. I guess all the ‘Little Piggies’ got towed away. My mother lied to me.
How my driving - Fred Paynter
Fred Paynter came across this truck whilst MTBiking at Holla trails, Ballito. He did not mention whether or not he called the number on the back but if I were to rate the driving I would say… bad.
Road to hell - Michele Pienaar
Michele Pienaar did not say where she spotted this sign. Although my translating skills seem to suggest that this is the ‘road to hell’. An area to avoid I guess, unless you have sturdy dentures and a sports bra.
Junkfood delux - Charlie Montross
Charlie Montross saw this sign in Umea in Sweden in February while on a business trip. The Swedes definitely have higher standards as if that is what their junk food looks like you could call me a junkie anytime. Wait. On second thoughts, please don’t call me a junkie.
Jim man - Deon van Aarde
Deon van Aarde spotted this sign on a recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand. I’m sure I can get this. It is actually a rather blatant rip of Playboy. You play on a ‘Jungle gym’ or ‘Jim’ and ‘boy’ makes an easy switch to ‘man’. Hugh Hefner wears ‘silk’ and they were toiling with legality.
Massage tent - Nico Fourie
Nico Fourie took this a couple of years ago in Bagkatla, Pilanesberg. That’s a helluva lot of services for such a small piece of realty!
Stop eating animals - Steffi Layer
Steffi Layer was in Germany when she discovered this nifty bit of graffiti. It’s subliminal really. If you see it everyday on the way to work eventually you will start to agree. I’m just glad I don’t encounter any such signs on my way to the office. I love biltong too much.
No thachi, ripoti - Elinda Meintjes
Elinda Meintjes found this note when she was staying in Sirheni Bush Camp, in the Kruger Park. To aid in deciphering she mentioned that this was the switch for the geyser. No thachi!
Illegal parking fine
Guy Hamlin’s son noticed this sign when they were driving down Kloof street in Cape Town and convinced them to go around the block to capture it. It is so typically Capetonian, “No bra, don’t worry about it, it’ll be fine”.

Pop in again next week for another dose of funny. Alternatively, if you think you have happened upon a sign worthy of this space please email it to [email protected]
